Old Fashioned Oats Vs Quick Oats….which Is Better For A Diabetic Or Hypertensive?

January 17th, 2012 § Tags: , , , , , , Posted in Diabetes § 4 comments § permalink

I want to know about the health benefits of all the oats out there too. I know the Cholesterol lowering benefits in general but is there one that is considered the one to have? I’m actually doing blogs about weight loss and healthy eating, but the sources of information online about the health benefits of oats and the benefits of each kind, laid out for anyone to read, is sketchy at best. Anyone can answer or point me in the right direction…thank you

Showing Signs Of Diabetes?

Hiya
I recently had a UTI that lasted about a week and was quite painful. I have also in the past year and a half suffered from the occassional hypo where I feel extremely dizzy, tired and have been sick. I got tested about 2 months ago for diabetes and it came back negative.
I have been on medicine for my UTI and that was cleared up. In the past week I have been frequently urinating like 2-3 times an hour and quite a fair amount not just a drip. I drink a lot, especially with my food. I cannot eat food without having a drink as my mouth gets dry! Yesterday I drank 3 glasses of water with one meal. I also got in from work today and drunk 2 glasses of water.
I now havent had a drink for 4 hours as I thought it would reduce how much I urinate but I have just been twice in half an hour. I have gained a few pounds in weight (I know weight LOSS is a symptom of diabetes) as my appetite has increased. I must admit my diet isn’t great but I am not over weight.
Im not sure as to whether this is being caused by eating sugary foods/carbohydrates or a genuine problem. I am planning on booking a doctors appointment with the hope of getting a urine and blood test taken. I also get tired quite early on in the evening – I do work long hours but even before I had my job I got tired quickly and have even fallen asleep when I have had people over!! I would just like some advice.
I know diabetes (type 1) tends to come on quite quickly, but is this always the case?

High Blood Sugar And Turning Total B! T Ch, Are These Behaviors Normal For High Blood Sugar In Type 1 Diabetic?

January 17th, 2012 § Tags: , , , , , , , Posted in Diabetes § 3 comments § permalink

when my girlfriends blood sugar goes high, she turns into a total evil Bee. Is this normal behavior for this condition? picking fights, saying mean and hurtful things just to be mean and hurtful, wanting to argue, forgetting most of it once bloodsugar returns to normal, drinking unbelievable amouts of water, and stuff of this nature?
It doesn’t happen very often, but when it does what should I do?

I’m Hypoglycemic But I Have More Energy And Better Focus If I Don’t Eat Till Dinner. Anyone Else Find That?

January 17th, 2012 § Tags: , , , , , , Posted in Diabetes § 2 comments § permalink

I had hypoglycemia but before I knew I had it, I used to not eat anything until dinner and I felt healthy and energetic and I was pretty thin. It all went down hill after I was diagnosed and put on a strict diet.
I’m not over weight by any means but I’m more curvy since I got diagnosed and my dietitian put me on a strict hypoglycemic diet of low GI carbs with lots of protien, eating several times a day. But I find that I’m always tired when I eat this diet several times a day and I have a hard time getting thin again. My brain feels super sluggish and I feel as if I have ADHD. I hate eating when I’m not hungry and it actually makes me feel really slow and dumb when I eat small meals throughout the day. I’m pretty strict with the diet, low fat protiens and low gi carbs, 50/50. But I still feel sluggish and it makes me more peckish during the mornings/afternoons.
I’m doing a project which requires a lot of concentration and energy during the day so I’m not eating anything during the day and I feel so much better for it. More energy and much more focus.
Does anyone else feel this way? Even if you’re not hypoglycemic, does anyone feel more energized with better focus without food until after 6pm?
Thanks for your help.

My family has a high history of Diabetes of all kinds, we are of hyspanic background and over the past year I have been struggling with my doctors and diets etc. aug 06 I started gaining weight rapidlly I was at 145 and jumped to 200 by jan. 07 I have stretch marks etc. I fought with my family doctor after batteries of tests to get a meeting with an endocrinologist.SHe didn’t get me my reference to one till about july of this year, i have to have the reference for my insurance. My gtt showed that I am having problems processing glucose. The put me on metformin (nasty side effects) it went great for like a few months, I was losing about a pound a week, but now I am starting to see allot of the same problems arrise again (not feeling full, easting and not really reallising it) I understand that eventually I will probably have diabetes but I am only 22 is there something I need to ask my doctor for, or what can I do. I have been counting carbs and excersising, but the weights coming back

4 Weeks Postpartum And My Milk Never Came In?!?

January 17th, 2012 § Tags: , , , , Posted in Diabetes § 3 comments § permalink

I had DS 3weeks and 6 days ago after a horribly difficult prengnacy, labor, delivery, and after birth. I had a gallbladder infection, gestational diabetes, and borderling pre-e during my pregnancy. When I was induced, I was in labor for 37 hours (with my water broken for 27 of those 37), pushed for 2 and a half (they noticed my amniotic fluid was maconium stained as soon as I started pushing) before they used a vacuum to get him out. I hemmoraged after birth, passing 11 softball-sized blood clots and was put on an antibiotic after to get them to stop coming.
I took DS home on time, and had been breastfeeding in the hospital. My lactation consulant said his latch was perfect, and even though my milk hadn’t come in, she assured me it would in the next 2 days, and urged me to exclusively breastfeed.
48 hours after being home, I noticed my baby was breathing “funny”, and took him to the ER. He was admitted to the NICU for sever jaundice, and hypoglycemia (he had gone from 8 pounds 2 ounces to 6 pounds 10 ounces in 4 days). They said his breathing was due to the dehydration. He spent 4 days in the NICU under lights and with IV fluid and was bottle fed. I immediatley started pumping trying to get my milk to “come in”. I pumped for 9 days and never got anything! The lactation nurse said it was nearly impossible for my milk to not come in, but when it did I would know and I could start breastfeeding then.
STILL NOTHING. I tried pumping againg today, and nada. Am I doing somethng wrong?? Has anyone else had this happen to them?

Advise Regarding Diabetes?

I’m very worried.. My mom tested her blood glucose level yesterday and it came to be 296 (after fasting)..
We both believe that taking insulins will be detrimental to her health in long run.. She wants to reduce her blood glucose level through healthy lifestyle i.e healthy diet, lots of water, low carbs and daily 30 minutes exercise..
I just wanted to have some opinions about her decision.. Should insulins be taken? Will she be able to reduce her blood glucose to an acceptable level through healthy diet? Should doctor be consulted (she is a bit hesitant in consulting doctor)
Thanks
