I was going to basically stop eat most breads and things like rice. I talked to my mom about it and she said that I shouldn’t do that. She said it would cause me to get diabetes from not eating a lot of breads and sugars. Is what she said a true fact?

Answer
Um…no. if anything it will prevent diabetes. Don’t listen to your mom. She is simply misremembering some junk science she read in a moronic diet book.

mom is mistaken, simple carbohydrates in the american diet are one of the leading causes of type 2 diabetes, you don’t need breads, pastries and rice.

  • Sarah says:

not necessarily, eating an excess of breads and sugars can cause diabetes. the best thing to do is to eat a healthy, balanced diet and to stay in shape if you want to avoid diabetes.

She is wrong. One of the reasons why people get diabetes as adults is because of spiking their insulin too many times through their life. What spikes insulin the most? Sugars and carbs. Some carbs are worse than others in this respect but the fact remains. Your mother is 180 degrees incorrect.
In fact, to eliminate a persons need for insulin shots due to adult onset diabetes, they often go on a low carb NO sugar diet.
