A Person With Diabetes Has To Be On Call 24/7. Is There Any Health Concers With Not Getting Sufficient Sleep?

Everyone’s body reacts differently to diabetes and levels of sleep. I, personally, had a problem when working a 3rd shift job. My sugar would go out of control during the late night hours when I was up working. It may have a different effect on you though. Try it out for a while and see how it works with your sugar control. If you start having symptoms of a loss in control of your blood sugar level, talk to you doctor and your employer and try to work out a solution. It may be that you need to have a normal (day shift) position due to your medical condition. Your health comes first… keep that in mind.
Good luck and best wishes…
I don’t think so. I know what it means to take call. Although I am not a diabetic, I found it almost impossible to eat correctly and calmly. I also have a friend who worked EMS and quit specifically because the odd hours, poor diet and lack of sleep made it very difficult to contoll his diabetes. Also, as a diabetic your are more prone to hypertention and the lack of proper sleep can add to the risk of hypertention. Yes, some people can regulate themselves even though “on call” means a lack of healthy rountine…it is just very difficult to do so. Good luck and best wishes. I hope you can work it out.
