Because My Cat Has Diabetes, Will It Shorten Her Life By Much?

My 6-year old female cat was just diagnosed about a month ago with Diabetes. We’ve been giving her diabetic food and insulin every single day, twice a day.
I was wondering, will this condition shorten her life? If so, by how much?

My daughter’s cat had to be given shots every day. She was taken to the vet more often of course, to have her blood monitored and so they were sure her insulin was being given in accurate doses. But, she lived to be 13, and died of something altogether different than diabetes!

Many diabetic cats, with proper care, will live long, happy lives after they’ve been diagnosed. Some cats even get to the point where they’re better and don’t need insulin anymore. I had a diabetic cat and found a great online community to help me with questions like this and the billions of other questions I had when facing this issue. Below is the link.

As long as you take her to vet and keep her levels stable, she should be fine.
