I found out about two weeks ago, since then I’ve found out I have heart issues, 35% kidney function and my vision was getting affected. My Glucose has been dropping since then – (as low as 156 yesterday).. however this morning it is 442 again. I’ve taken the test twice. Is it possible? I’ve had nothing to eat except dinner last night which was turkey sandwich with wheat bread. What do you suggest I do?

go to the ER. Thats very high. I’m a type one..if mine gets over 250 a take a shot of insulin.

Are you taking insulin?….ask your Dr about sliding scale insulin. Make sure you are drinking plenty of water, stop sugar if you are still consuming it, also make sure your carbs are not simple carbs, eat fruits and veggies, get rid of white bread, white flour products, white rice, etc….get a referral for diabetic education with a dietitian or nutritionist
If you do not have insulin, go to the ER, blood sugar that high is dangerous, do not try to drive yourself, call 911 if you don’t have anyone to take you

for starters you can go for half hour walks no less than 3 days a week. take out all the white stuff like white bread and go with rye, whole grain, butter top or potato breads, sugar, go with splenda, all your diet rite drinks and diet rc have splenda in them. cut out your coffee and go decaf, be reasonable with all your sweets ( chocolate, candies and such), do some fruits, apples, oranges, grapes, strawberries, blueberries, these work for me, but you decide what you want. follow what the serving sizes would be, follow your meds and some or all of this ( if you want) and your bl. su. count will go down. i have been a type 2 diabetic since 1990 so i know. stick with your chicken and turkey and maybe once a week have a salad w/ tomatos and whatever else you like. i hope this helps. these are just suggestions. if you do nothing else follow the exercise and fruits, and if you want let me know how it is. try some oat meal w/ raisins and honey, i like it. always keep a log of your sugar count that way you have proof of the numbers good or bad. that lets you know what you’re doing right.

You need to be in close contact with your doctor as you work this out. This is a problem of getting your meds in line. Diet is only part of the equation, and if your sugars are fluctuating that wildly you need help from medication as well. If you’re on orals right now you might need insulin to supplement it.
I strongly suggest you talk to your doctor asap because with the symptoms you’ve listed you don’t have a lot of wiggle room. You don’t have the luxury of taking 6 months to iron out your blood sugars.

ok…ummm my x bf which is now a really close friend of mine is having the same problem! he found out when he was 15! he is now 22! he goes 2 the doctors quiet a bit! his sugar gets up in the 400s also! Its hard 2 believe! the doctors has told him plenty of times that he wont live 2 b 30 because all of his organs will eventually slowly shut down! he was also told that that can b prevented if he keeps up with taking all of his meds and insulin! the doctors r thinking bout puttin him on an insulin pump! Sugar can affect ur life big time but most of the dangerous consequences can b prevented! watch what u eat! try not 2 eat much starch! keep up with ur meds and keep a diet! this will help regulate ur sugar 2 a safer average!!! Sugar can also cause anxiety attacks so be careful when getting excited or upset!! I hope all of this helps u!! keep me updated!!! good luck and best of wishes!!! <3

i suggest you follow the doctors advice. lose weight, follow a proper diet, exercise, don’t drink or smoke, etc. not eating proper could cause diabetic coma ( a low sugar count is as bad as a high one )

Since you haven’t been on the oral meds long enough for them to be fully in your system, these things will happen. You have to be a bit patient while waiting for the glucose to level out.
Glucophage/Metformin is systemic and takes about 3 to 4 weeks to be fully effective. The doctors are just guessing as to how much you really need, but if you take too much of it too fast, it can be quite gastrically upsetting to the system. So you can expect to have it adjusted til it works well. Other meds sometimes take that long to work really well as well.
You have had diabetes for quite a while for it to have done that much damage to your system. Sometimes it doesn’t take but a few months, and sometimes it takes a couple of years.
Do expect the glucose numbers to skyrocket every once in a while for no good reason you can see and don’t panic!! It happens to all of us.
At first I cut all unnecessary carbo foods out of my diet and slowly added them back. That means I didn’t eat any breads, cereals, fruits, rices, potatoes, corn, carrots, peas etc.
Then I discovered what low fat or no fat milk products do to me!! I don’t have milk products any more either. A serving of the low fat yogurt sent my glucose to 600!!! A serving of frijoles (pinto beans) sent my glucose to 300! Neither time did it come down very fast!!
I have half a slice of oat nut bread per day now!
I recommend South Beach phase 2. This is what the endos recommended for my food plan. Do be sure to have a cheat treat once a week to prevent the guilts and the cravings. One small serving of something you love, ice cream, chocolate cake, something like that, will save your sanity. Plan it in!!
