How To Get Insurance For My Diabetic Supplies And Doctor?

I’m a type one diabetic and I’m 17 now, but when I turn 18 I’m moving out on my own. Right now my mom has medicaide to pay for everything, but I don’t know what I’m going to do when I move out. I would ask my mom for help, but it would just start an argument about me planning to move out. So can anyone help me with that. I have no clue about anything like this.

This depends largely on the state you live in and what your plans are after you leave. If you are going to work then often times your employer will offer health insurance. If you are going to school then you should still be covered by your mother’s medicaid. If you are unemployed or your company doesn’t offer health insurance then you may be eligible for your own medicaid or a plan like Healthy NY which is a state subsidized health insurance plan for people who make too much for medicaid and can not get a plan from there employer.

    Drew is correct.
Since you are on your mothers medicaid, your medical needs are taken care of. But if as Drew’s suggestions are that you don’t qualify for help after moving out, you could be stuck paying out of pocket.
I suggest you find out the cost of your supplies and the amount charged for your doctors before moving out. With diabetes, it is not cheap and you do need regular health care. The next time you get supplies, ask them if not for medicaid, what would it have cost me? The same for your doctors.
You may find that even if you have enough to pay for rent, food etc, you wont be able to afford to take care of your diabetes.
    good luck

Well, you’ll be paying cash for them, unless you have a job, with health insurance through your employer.
You can try for welfare health insurance, like medicaid, but it’s not guaranteed you’ll qualify.
