I know most of you aren’t doctors but I was wondering if you think I should talk to someone.
I’m 16, my weight is normal, but I just lost a lot of it, I don’t know why, but I just haven’t been that hungry lately so sometimes I skip meals and I don’t know my blood pressure.
Answer
Ummm……… if you know what the symptoms are then why are you making yourself hypoglycemic. Your messing around with your blood sugars and can turn diabetic if you dont take care of yourself.
Why mess around with it? Just prevent doing it unless your just wanting shots and medication for the rest of your life.
I know most of you aren’t doctors but I was wondering if you think I should talk to someone.
How old are you?
Are you under/overweight?
Do you eat balanced meals?
Do you skip meals?
Is your blood pressure low?
Answer these and it can help to give you a better answer.
The only way to know for sure is to go to the doctor. He or she will most likely have some blood work done (while fasting) if you sugar levels are off they will have do another test called a glucose tolerance test.
If it is something that greatly concerns you, go see the doctor. Given your symptoms, I would.
Well you don’t have your symptoms listed out here so i can’t make any form of a conclusion, but assuming you have 13symptoms that match up then i would think it’s possible. Aalthough a lot of the symptoms are pretty vague, which is why i prefer to see which ones you have?
I will say this though. When i first found out that i was hypo, i didn’t know how to handle it. I was about your age, athletic, skinny, etc. Your diet needs to eliminate simple surgars and starches. If you are hypo then your body responds to sugar in your digestive system by releasing too much insulin in the blood stream. This then takes too much sugar into your cells and leaves your blood stream low in sugar, which typically affects your brain first (inability to focus) and then you start to feel irritable, light headed, and begin to shake. You need to supplant sugars with more protiens and good fats, which break down into sugar slower and doesn’t stimulate a large insulin response. You also need to make your diet higher in whole grain foods if you are going to eat breads, cereals, or pasta, since those things are generaly very startchy when they are not mad from whole grains. You also should increase your intake of vegetables and cut down on really sugary fruits like bannanas and pineapple. Try to cut down on candy and sugary drinks, Orange juice is not good!! If you feel like your blood sugar is getting low a good snack is cheese. You also need to eat often, 4-6 times a day, and never eat a large meal. Caffiene and alcohol also make the situation worse by forcing your body to produce more insulin. If you follow this diet and you feel better you still should go to the doctors(to at least tell him in case there is something causing it!!!) There is no medicine cure for it, only diet. However, it is important that you find out if there is a cause behind it, so still go. What i am trying to say (i’m confusing, i know) is that it is crucial that you realize that what you eat makes a big difference. So if you are looking to get better, and it is hypo, then a diet change should fix that! Not to mention it’s good for you, i can’t believe how good i feel on this diet.
It’s common for kids these days, in a society where processed food have become so common, to acquire this disease. Although food allergies can also cause it, as in my case (gluten intolerant). What you need to make sure you do, especially since you probably have a high metabolism like i did, is make sure that you build those glycogen stores in your body up early in the day. In the morning, don’t eat cereal anymore. If you are gonna do carbs eat a whole grain bagel…or if you really have to do cereal make sure it has a lot of fiber and is whole grain. I prefer eggs with whole grain toast (or did, not now that i’m gluten intolerant i can’t do breads). then in the afternoon transition to more protien. Maybe eat a tuna fish sandwitch on whole grain bread, burger on whole grain or some form of meat with some whole grain, or meat and vegetables. Try to make your dinner more protien based again, which i would imagine isn’t too hard to do since most people eat something high in protien for dinner. Also, snack between each of those three meals. This really should make you feel bettter if your issue is hypo. I have a lot to say about the subject and the “do’s” and “don’ts” of it, so feel free to ask me if you need to know anything more about it!! Hope this works for you!!!
