Is Eating Rice And Noodles A Risk For Diabetes?

August 31st, 2010 § Tags: , , , , Posted in Diabetes § § 7 comments

Most of the time, I eat rice and noodles along with vegetables and lean meat as a part of my culture. (chicken and fish)

I heard that rice and noodles could lead to diabetes. Is this true?

Also, I eat a lot of fruits at home, and excercise regularly.

Answer
NO food or drink is a risk factor for diabetes!! Diabetes is more hereditary than caused by lifestyle. And contrary to popular opinion on this forum, one does not have to be overweight and sedentary to be at risk to get diabetes type 2. Thin active people are just as much at risk.

See your doctor on regular schedule for blood draw HbA1c and continue to eat a good balanced food plan and be active and you will be healthier than most people.

There are not any foods or drinks that lead to diabetes! But some foods and drinks do exacerbate the problem once you have diabetes.

rice and noodles are high in carbs, and they are on the list of foods that diabetics have to eat in low amounts and in moderation. Unless they are made with whole grain, they are ok.

In your case… I don’t think so. A healthy alternative to rice and noodles are whole grain rice and whole grain noodles.

  • zakiit says:

No, it is not a problem. Rice and noodles are a good source of slow release carbohydrate which is desireable. As with most things like this, the problems can come when you add sauces. As long as the sauces do not contain much salt or sugar they should be fine.

  • Tasha says:

That is the biggest joke I’ve ever herd! Don’t believe that for a second. You can’t get diabetes from eating anything in paticular (Type 1 that is) You get diabetes from genetics or auto immune. You’ll be fine eating rice and noodles

  • Noccie says:

There is no food that causes diabetes. Rice and noodles are high in carbohydrates so a person with diabetes may have to reduce the amount they eat, however, if you don’t have diabetes rice and noodles will not do you any harm. Consider this – if the people in your culture all eat a lot of rice and noodles everyone in your culture would have diabetes if the food caused the disease!
