Why Are You More At Risk Of Getting The Flu/could Potentially Suffer Severe Symptoms If You Are A Diabetic?

Because diabetes suppresses the immune system by preventing glucose from entering the cells and tissue (providing food and fuel), which is the job of insulin. Insulin has the job of carrying glucose into the cells. Infections such as the flu trigger the immune system, but if the tissues and cells are not getting fuel (glucose), then they cannot fight off the infection very well due to low insulin levels, leading to a build up of excess glucose in our system. Hope this helps.
