i know that sometime last year there was a change to the law about employing people with$ diabetes. it had something to do with changing it so that any work done offshore or at height and a few other examples were taken out of the law and each person was based upon their own status and physical health regardless of their condition.
as far as i know the only jobs diabetics legally cant do now is drive large goods vehicles or work in the armed forces.
anyone able to shed some light on this for me so that i am completely clear?
Work On Cruise With Diabetes?

That’s an interesting question so I looked it up. I found this site: http://www.diabetesuffolk.com/LivingWith… which was quite helpful. Unfortunately, being on insulin precludes you from jobs
* Driving HGVs, buses and taxis
* Armed forces
* Fire service
* Ambulance service
* Prison service
* Airline pilots and Airline Cabin crew
* Air traffic control
* Offshore work e.g. – on oil rigs and ships
However, don’t let that stop you. I worked on a cruise ship for two years and I have Crohns Disease. Not the same thing, I grant you but still a serious medical condition. They make you go for a medical before they offer you employment so you could always apply and if you pass the medical then no problem. I remember being worried about mine because I had just come off steroids for my Crohns and I was worried the doctor would think I was a druggie.
Best idea? Contact one of the cruise line recruitment consultants. They’ll know better than me. Good luck!
UK – As a diabetic type 2 diet controlled i have never been asked when applying for a job because it is not an illness it is a way of life, I know several diabetics who drive HGV lorry’s, if it was an illness we would be able to claim disability allowance or incapacity benefit which we cannot – don’t think we could get a job in the chocolate factory as a taste tester, If in the UK I would check with ACAS http://www.acas.co.uk
