Strangely enough it actually can have the same effect that regular soda has on your blood sugar. I didn’t believe it, but a couple of friends of mine who are diabetics really have to be careful as they’ve seen their blood sugar rise even though they know they were drinking diet.
Does it cause diabetes though? If not inherited, diabetes is generally a product of poor overall diet and inactivity – not just one ‘bad’ thing in your diet.
No.
Diet sodas are great, and have NO side effects to a normally healthy person, so long as they are taken in moderation, that is, nor more than TWO a day.
Artificial sweeteners have been shown to cause cancer – in lab rats!. But this is partly because the rates are feed MASSIVER amounts of the sweetener. For YOU to eat as much sweetener (compared to your weight) as the rat, you would have to eat 500-600 POUNDS of sweetener every day!
Diet colas are perfectly safe, and DO NOT cause side effects, when a normally healthy person uses them in moderation
Diet sodas, AKA a little water with a lot of chemicals in it, are NOT good for you.
Artificial sweeteners are probably the most dangerous, the FDA should NEVER have approved them.
I advise you to read a quality book about industrial vs natural foods, like “Real Food: What to Eat and Why” or “Nourishing Traditions”
Think about this, in 1900 when there was no such thing as diabetes, and cancer was extremely rare, what did people eat then?
Diabetes has been known since egyptian times !!
The reason there was no knowledge of it was because, mostly, we died. There was no insulin to treat it, so there was nothing they could do and we simply died.
There is absolutle no proof anywhere that diet soda leads to diabetes.
Some studies say that diet soda doesn’t work as well as people think if you’re trying to loose weight… but nothing says it gives you diabetes.
No, I don’t beleive it can but this hasn’t been scientifically proven. However, any kind of black soda like pepsi, coke, diet coke is not good for your health.
No, and eating/drinking products w/ sugar does not cause diabetes.
See the diabetes myths below from the American Diabetes Association
EDIT: For Charles: yes, in 1900, there was TYPE 1 diabetes (the original kind – where people’s pancreases simply stopped producing insulin. The ability to make insulin was discovered in 1928 to treat the Type 1s; otherwise, they died. I had Type 1 diabetes prior to a kidney/pancreas transplant.
MYTHS Eating or drinking sweet/sugary foods or drinks causes diabetes
No food or drink on its own can cause diabetes, period. If you had no inherited tendency to diabetes then even if you ate only sugar you would not get diabetes/
For the person who said that diabetic friends glucose levels rose due to diet sodas it is impossible as there are no carbohydrates in diet sodas so they can not affect blood glucose levels they must have had something with the drink that affected the levels it COULD not be the soda
I frequently drink diet sodas but I try to keep it to a reasonable level due to all the chemicals in i tbut that is personal choice some research says that sweeteners are bad for you
