Daughter At 30 Wks… Gest. Diabetes… Need Recipes!?

The ADA really has no clue here to what works and what doesn’t and neither do the doctors. They seem to think we can eat loads of carbs, like more than 30 grams per meal and get in compliance on glucose levels.
I eat bacon and eggs for breakfast nearly every morning. Occasionally I have a half slice of buttered toast.
I make lots of salads!! Green leafy base as in fresh spinach then tomatoes, cucumbers, onions, peppers, cheese, hard boiled eggs, and real salad dressing on the side. Sometimes I have a chicken thigh, sometimes a hamburger patty, and sometimes diced leftover meats from roast or other meats, about a half cup per salad.
The real dressing adds enough fats so one doesn’t feel hungry, but on the side I eat much less of it than if I were to upend the bottle over the salad.
Think of any food with seeds in it like tomato, cucumber, peppers as very low carb fruits!!! Avocado and nuts/seeds work well on salads too and are very healthy.http://www.nutritiondata.com has a generator where you put in the ingredients and it gives you the nutrition of that recipe or food.http://www.sparkpeople.com the same info with an excellent forum for questions.
2 other sites for this: http://www.stayfit.com and heep://www.fitday.com are interesting for recipes and ideas.
another one where you can find loads of low carb food recipes is http://www.diabetes.about.com and in the forum is a file named Recipe Box. About.com also has a low carb diet site that is excellent for very low carb recipes and menus.
Didn’t the doctor give her any indications of what she could eat?
For a general overview of diabetes, check out The American Diabetic Association: https://www.diabetes.org/nutrition-and-r…
They have lots of information and LOTS of recipes
my bf and his sister have diabetes, and it does not run in their family the type they have. she got it when she was four, he got it at 16. sadly to see, theres not really much of a “diet” for diabetes, i dont know if your daughter has type one or type two however, but carbohydrates is the big thing. if you want her to still be able to eat regularly like everyone else, i suggest an insolin shot with a blood glucose level tester =’[ im so sorry for you. i do know they do have diabetic cook books, i have one, but its nothing really different. just healthier foods. if she has the same type as my bf and his sister, insolin shots, or the pump, is what i suggest. then she can eat close to anything she has been, just not high in sugar drinks or carbs because thats what will skyrocket her blood levels in no time, its what to drink though if her levels are low.
