Are There Any Home Diagnostic Kits To Test For Diabetes?

Hey all, just wondering if there are any home diagnostic kits to test for diabetes. I’m not sure if I have diabetes but it runs on one side of the family. I just recently graduated from college so since I’m off my student insurance plan now, I don’t want to go running to my doctor for everything. If there are, any recommendations? Thanks!

There really isn’t a ‘home diagnostic test’ available for diabetes – but you have alternatives.
When we go out to do diabetes screenings, we take our patients through a series of question to determine their likelihood of having diabetes. First, I’d want to know if you are constantly thirsty, always having to urinate, are excessively tired, or are having any unexplained vision problems. If you are, I strongly recommend you to visit your physician and ask for them to check your blood glucose level, and possibly even request a glucose tolerance test.
If not, I would ask you to take a risk factor survey, such as this one (http://diabetes.org/risk-test.jsp ) located on the American Diabetes Association website. If you still have questions, my best suggestion is to contact your local American Diabetes Association office – you can find yours via this weblink(http://www.diabetes.org/communityprogram… ) and see if they have any diabetes screening planned. You can also stop by your local pharmacy and ask the pharmacist if they can do a glucose test on you (try independant pharmacies before the chain stores – also try your old student health center). You’d be suprised what services pharmacists can offer you in terms of screening tests.

If you have access to a home test kit ?, take your sugar test every morning for a week? or more ? if you have a reading of 125 or more cosistently over a time period you could be a candidate for type 2 diabetes?over 175/200 go to a dr! remember the signs ,thirst, tiredness, cuts that dont heal !
